And those would be Joe and John who are driving a van from Hamilton to Portland that will be used as the SAG wagon for the group hoping to cycle from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles, California. Joe left Waterdown at 5:00 a.m. on Friday to pick John up in London at 6:30 and after loading one more bicyle and one person's luggage, they started on their journey. Joe left with 4 bicyles and 6 people's luggage from home. No issues at the border at all - they weren't even asked for the paper work that each of us had prepared in case they asked.
Friday night's destination was Williamsburg, Iowa - a long day of driving and two tired drivers who slept very well that night. Saturday was also a long day but not such an early morning start - the plan had been to stay in Cheyenne, Wyoming but that changed because Joe and John wanted to spend some time in Salt Lake City on Sunday so they drove another 100 miles to another destination that I don't know the name of.
Downtown Salt Lake City was an interesting place to spend time on Sunday morning. They also had a few hours of rain while driving today. Joe called at 9:30 our time from Boise, Idaho which was the destination for Sunday. Tomorrow night should find Joe and John in Portland already. This gives them a day to explore the area and get a practice ride in yet before the tour starts on Thursday morning.
The rest of the group will be flying in from all parts of the continent on Wednesday. Once we get to the airport, we take a train to Hillsboro where we will be staying the first night. On Thursday the adventure begins for all of us. We will keep you posted....
John, Sorry we missed you on Sunday. We got your message too late, Saturday. And by the time we called the number at the hotel Sunday, you were gone. Best of luck and we'll keep check in with you on this blog. Stop on the way back if you can.
