The Yachats Inn was a great place to spend a night - rustic but very comfortable. Because of our early arrival we could take advantage of their indoor pool and hot tub and their kitchen facilities made it possible to cook up a spagetti dinner with Caesar salad and garlic bread. We had a great lounging area so we could all hang out together in one room instead of one of the bedrooms. By now we've been together for almost a week sharing sleeping quarters so we know who are the light sleepers and who the people are that snore. Light sleepers and snorers don't mix well...
We were all ready to roll this morning when Adri discovered one of his tires was flat. Since everyone was anxious to get going, five of them helped fix the flat...
Today's section of the coast was more rugged and was famous for the sea lion caves. We stopped and admired but did not go down into the caves because it was to be a 110 kilometer ride and the cyclists did not know what was ahead of them yet. The roads started out being wet this morning which the cyclists don't like because the tires pick up all kinds of dirt because of it. This happened to Joanne who had a flat just before we were to meet for coffee.
Our second breakfast was just before the breakfast menu changed to the lunch menu at a local McDonalds. Being the cheap Dutchmen that we are, we spend $3.50 for 2 senior coffees and buy one get one free Egg McMuffins - just enough to tide us over to lunch time.
Lunch stop was at a state park where we set up right beside the highway on the cement barriers - works great. While standing there we had a visitor - a retired pastor had spoken to us on Sunday over lunch and we told him we were from Canada, etc. etc. He tells us his dad was born in Gormley so he had been to Canada. He spots one of our cyclists who is wearing a Canada cycling shirt with the maple leaf on is so he assumed it was our group. He stopped by to say hi...didn't get his picture which was too bad. It was nice to see him again.
This area is also famous for sand dunes and some of us decided to check them out by riding a "Dune Bug" - I'll just say that whatever happened in the dunes, stays in the dunes...
Total kilometers today was 112 - Flats 2 for a total of 4...
