Lincoln City to Yachats - Sept. 12, 2011

Overnight it rained and the roads were wet when we woke up this morning - not good for bike tires as we have found out from previous experience. Rain gear was not a must today but it was drizzling when the riders left just after 8:00 a.m. Bernie's instructions to us upon leaving were to meet up and regroup at a certain spot along the way for coffee. The support vehicle left shortly after the cyclists, we did a few groceries and set off along highway 101 which is the road of choice for the day with a small deviation on Oceanview which would take everyone closer to the coast for a very scenic ride. The vehicle came to Oceanview and saw a lone cyclist who had just gone past the road without seeing the sign - he turned around and hoped to meet up with the other cyclists. Two other cyclists arrived and went the correct route. Now the challenge was to find the rest of the group so we could have coffee together.

In the meantime we saw lots of beauty...

The total distance we were to travel today was 78 kilometers. Needless to say we all arrived at Yachats Inn safely - all at different times and not without worrying about each other. Bernie said at supper time, "if you had listened to what I said this morning, you would not have gotten lost." The 3 cyclists who were with him confessed they were going so fast having just come from a fast downhill, they did not see the sign for Oceanview or the Oregon Coast Bike Route sign. Lesson learned again today....

We have to admit to 2 flat tires today - the same person had 2 and it was a lady who was very thankful that she was riding with a man who knew how to change a flat quicker than she would have been able to do. Joanne had all the supplies needed right down to the wipes to clean hands....only a woman would be so organized.
