A day of rest for all of us. Leisure breakfast before we either drove or walked to a church of
our own choice. Eight of us made an excellent choice - we walked a few blocks to an Evangelical Church just down from the motel. We were invited to a potluck lunch and what cyclist would turn down a good meal. A bit of guilt crossed our minds because we hadn't brought any food but only for a second. This congregation went out of their way offering hospitality to total strangers...
Good thing we had to do some up hill walking to get back to the motel so we could walk off some of the food we had eaten. Yesterday I mentioned that Joanne had some bad scratches on her legs from the black berry bushes - well today she felt so much better about that after eating a piece of black berry crumble that was on the food table - so worth it!
Walking home along the beach we looked up a long ways to see our motel only to discover that it is perched very precariously on a sandy cliff. We all figure we are all right for one more night here before we would have to worry about this place sliding down to the water. Pictures will be coming showing this...
Some of the group wandered downtown and witnessed baptism by immersion in the smallest river that Lincoln City is famous for. Considering how chilly it was this afternoon, those people must have been very cold. They stopped and chatted with the folk for a while and offered encouragement. Others walked the beach and came across a colony of seals resting on an island.
Since we had a small kitchenette in one of the rooms we did a real home cooked meal for supper - roast pork, mashed potatoes and green beans with a Caesar salad - you'd be surprised how little space you need to cook up a meal. Well received by all and a great finish to a lazy day.
Tomorrow we are back to doing what we came here for - seeing more of the Oregon coastline.
