Cannon Beach to Tillamook...--Sept 9, 2011

Went to bed on Thursday night wondering if the fog would roll in overnight as it often does.  We were surprised to wake up to sunshine with just a bit of fog hanging over the water - the haystacks were almost visible.  Since it was to be a short ride on Friday, start time would be 10:00 so everyone could do some sightseeing in Cannon Beach before setting out.  Breakfast was made by our chefs who specialize in making toast and scrambled eggs and we all assembled in the library to eat this.  Homecooked meals are a treat from eating every meal in a restaurant.

By 10:00 everyone was on the road again heading south to Tillamook - the scenery was magnificent and different from what had been seen before.  Finding a place to have lunch creates problems but we did manage to find a spot at Rockaway Beach where we claimed some picnic tables and had our "tail gate" lunches there with the waves crashing on the beach and the winds blowing causing us to hold on to our food before it blew out of our hands.

Touring the famous Tillamook Cheese Factory was on the agenda where we found out all the details on how cheese is made - samples were abundant for the different cheeses and also for the ice cream that makes them famous as well

.  It was dessert before supper for most.  Supper was a short walk from the Ashley Inn.  It was an early day for all - only 63 kilometers of cycling but there were some mean hills to conquer.  Still no flats for the second day of cycling.....stay tuned for the last day this week before a day of rest.  Kilometers cycled today - 63
